I’ve Started to Read

And I feel different already.

Reading is a good habit. One should read daily. Bill Gates reads one book a week; 52 books a year.

We’ve heard all of this before.

I know I should read.

In fact, I know which one’s I want to read too. I’ve got my bookshelf full of masterpieces from the non-fiction category.

Something or the other always came in as a roadblock. And the books still lie there on the shelf, waiting to be read.

But now, I’ve started taking time out just to read. And instead of perceiving it as an activity which I “should” do, I now see it as a “must”.

Secondly, I’ve been reading fiction- lengths of text born out of one’s imagination.

Truth be told, I did not regard fiction novels nowhere close to my preferences for non-fiction. I wanted practicality, not an account of things least likely to happen. And with this narrow minded attitude to work, I never really considered how it was on the other side of the shelf.

Non-fictions also had a tendency to bore me-adding to the obstacles on my path.

But with time I’ve learned to appreciate the power of imagination, which is something I didn’t use to.

I was too busy trying to learn lessons which people had learned and put to words in inspirational and self-help books, that I overlooked the possibility of learning these lessons with examples of fictional characters.

Such has been the impact of reading so far. I have not read much- I’ve barely started. But it feels good, and I will not let this momentum die out.

Just like the other blogs I’ve written, it’s something that I just wanted to put out. I hope this made you want to start out on the habit of reading too, for I know almost all of us have failed at it despite the finest of plans.

Cheers!
